Acceptable Documents

All applicants must provide documentation to verify identity and current circumstances.

Applicants must provide:

Applicants who are current Bassetlaw District Council tenants will need to provide one form of ID.

All documents must be valid and in-date. We will not accept documents which are not on the below list unless stated.

We will only accept screenshots of documents if the screenshot shows the whole document. Partial screenshots will not be accepted.

If you or any household member have changed names and don’t have all required documents in the same name, you must provide Proof of name change.

 

 


Proof of ID

The following documents can be accepted as proof of identity:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Birth or adoption certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Benefit award letter (not Universal Credit)*

*If using a benefit award letter as ID, you must provide a separate document as either proof of National Insurance Number or proof of address.

 


Proof of current address

The following documents can be accepted as proof of identity and must be dated within the last 12 months:

  • Utility bill
  • Council Tax bill
  • Bank statement
  • Credit card or financial statement (dated within the last 3 months)
  • Benefit award letter (e.g. Child Benefit, pension, PIP, DLA)
  • HMRC letter
  • Letter from GP surgery (dated within the last 3 months)
  • Tenancy agreement

If you are currently of No Fixed Abode, you will need to complete a No Fixed Abode Form and provide proof of your correspondence address which must be one of the above documents. The No Fixed Abode Form can be downloaded here: No Fixed Abode Form Current Address

If you have a gap in your address history where you were of No Fixed Abode, you will need to complete a No Fixed Abode Gap in Address History Form which can be downloaded here: No Fixed Abode Form Gap in Address History

You can use your proof of address as proof of National Insurance Number unless you are also using it as proof of ID, in which case you will need to provide an additional proof of either address or National Insurance Number.

 


Proof of National Insurance Number

The following documents can be accepted as proof of National Insurance Number:

  • National Insurance Card
  • P45
  • P60
  • Payslip
  • Benefits award letter (e.g. Child Benefit, pension, PIP, DLA)

You can use your proof of National Insurance Number as proof of address unless you are also using it as proof of ID, in which case you will need to provide an additional proof of either address or National Insurance Number.

 


Children aged under 18

If you have children in your household aged under 18 years of age, you must provide evidence that you receive either Child Benefit or Universal Credit Child Element. This should be a Benefit award letter or screenshot of your full Universal Credit statement showing the Child Element award.

You can provide a bank statement dated within the last 3 months showing your Child Benefit payments. If you provide a screenshot, it must show the full document including the account holder name and address.

If your child is aged under 3 months, you can provide the child’s birth certificate instead of proof of Child Benefit or Child Element. However, if you are offered a property, we will request evidence that you receive either Child Benefit or the Child Element before the offer can go ahead.

If you are adding a child to your active HomeFinder application, you will need to provide an official document which confirms the child’s full name. This should be your Child Benefit award letter.

 


Adults aged over 18

If there are adults in your household that will be moving with you but will not be joint applicants, you will need to provide proof of their ID and one proof of address for each adult.

You will not need to provide proof of their National Insurance Number or immigration status.

 


Proof of name change

If you or any household member have changed names and don’t have all required documents in the same name, you must provide one of the following documents which shows the change of name:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Deed poll certificate
  • Divorce decree absolute plus 1 valid form of ID showing the new name.

 


Non-British Nationals

All applicants and joint applicants who are non-British nationals must demonstrate that they have recourse to public funds.

The following may be requested:

  • Online immigration status (eVisa)
  • Gov.uk Share Code
  • Benefits award letter or other evidence of recourse to public funds.

Where a person doesn’t have recourse to public funds, they cannot be a joint applicant but can be a household member on an application.

 


Proof of Local Connection

Current residence in Bassetlaw

If claiming a Local Connection to Bassetlaw through your current residence in Bassetlaw, you will need to provide evidence of your current address. Please see the Proof of current address section for documents we can accept as proof of address.

Close relative in Bassetlaw

If claiming a Local Connection through a close relative that lives in Bassetlaw, you must provide evidence that the relative currently lives in Bassetlaw and has done so for 2 years. You must also provide evidence of their relationship to you. Please note that you can only use parents, siblings, children or your spouse as your Local Connection.

Applicants can complete a Local Connection Verification Form to provide details of close relatives they wish to use as their Local Connection to Bassetlaw. This form is not required but makes sure that applicants provide all of the details we need when assessing their application. The Form can be downloaded here: Local Connection Verification Form

The following documents are required:

  • In all cases: Proof of the relative’s current address dated within the last 12 months in addition to proof of address showing how long they have lived in Bassetlaw. For example, applicants could provide 2 utility bills which show the relative having lived at their current address for more than 2 years.
  • Parents: Applicant’s birth certificate showing relationship to the parent.
  • Siblings: Applicant and sibling’s birth certificates confirming the same parents.
  • Children: Child’s birth certificate confirming the applicant is their parent.
  • Spouse: Marriage certificate.

Where either the applicant or their relative has had a change of name evidence of the name change will be required. See Proof of name change section for documents we can accept as proof of name change.

Armed Forces

Applicants who are current or former members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces will receive a Local Connection to Bassetlaw if they provide evidence of their service, such as:

  • Record of service from the Ministry of Defence
  • Discharge paperwork from the Ministry of Defence
  • Veteran’s Card
  • Evidence the applicant receives an Armed Forces pension.

Right To Move

Applicants who wish to move to Bassetlaw under the Right To Move scheme to take up employment in Bassetlaw must provide the following:

  • Tenancy agreement confirming that their current tenancy is an Introductory, Secure or Assured tenancy with a social housing provider, and
  • Evidence confirming their employment or offer of employment in Bassetlaw, and
  • Evidence that not moving into Bassetlaw would cause the applicant hardship.

Further evidence may be requested to confirm potential hardship on a case-by-case basis.

Employment

Applicants who have been employed in Bassetlaw for over a year or who have an offer of employment in Bassetlaw which will last more than a year must provide the following:

  • Evidence that their place of work is in Bassetlaw, such as a job contract or letter from employer
  • Evidence showing how long their employment in Bassetlaw has been for
  • Evidence of offer of employment that will require the applicant to work in Bassetlaw and confirms how long the employment will last.
