Who Can Apply
Applicants will be accepted onto Bassetlaw HomeFinder unless they are:
- Below 18 years of age
- Non-qualifying
- Not eligible for housing assistance
- Owner occupiers who are unable to resolve their own housing need.
Age
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Applicants aged 16 or 17 years will only be accepted if they have a support package in place from a recognised agency.
Non-British Nationals
Applicants who are not British Citizens will need to demonstrate they have recourse to public funds. We will request to see your eVisa or gov.uk Share Code. We might also request evidence that you receive public funds, like Universal Credit.
Owner occupiers
Applicants who own their current home, or who have a financial interest in another property, will only be allowed to register on Bassetlaw HomeFinder if they are unable to resolve their own housing need.
A financial assessment will be carried out to assess whether the applicant has the ability to purchase an alternative suitable property using the average house price in the Bassetlaw district.

Proof of identity
We will request documents from all applicants to verify identity and current circumstances.
Current Bassetlaw District Council tenants must provide one form of ID.
All other applicants must provide ID for all adults, proof of National Insurance Number, proof of address and any other documents we may require to verify your circumstances.

Checks and references
We will make a number of checks to verify the details and information provided to us are correct and up-to-date. This might include requesting references from your current and former landlords, requesting information from Probation or the Police about offending history or checks that the applicant does not have a financial interest in a property.
Non-Qualifying Persons
While most applicants are “qualifying persons”, some applicants can be excluded from Bassetlaw HomeFinder as “non-qualifying persons” in-line with the Housing Act 1996 Section 160ZA.
Applicants might become non-qualifying if they:
- Are evicted from a Bassetlaw District Council tenancy;
- Are convicted of a serious criminal offence that would have breached the terms of a Bassetlaw District Council tenancy;
- Cause anti-social behaviour;
- Are subject to an anti-social behaviour warning, order, injunction or closure order;
- Where a possession order has been granted due to anti-social behaviour;
- Cause malicious damage to or neglect of a property;
- Use or allow the use of a property for illegal or immoral purposes;
- Use violence or aggression towards Bassetlaw District Council staff or agents.
If an applicant is a non-qualifying person they will be notified that their application has been excluded and the reasons for exclusion including any conditions set. Applicants can request a review of any exclusion.
